I Watched You Die

It was so tough to watch
You finally quit the junk
But it was too late by then
The damage had been done

Your body grew weak
But your character strong
You finally took your life back
But it wasn't yours for long

Your very soul was put to the test
You could have surrendered and just given in
You cleaned up your act so you could die sober
And take back your life before it was over

There was so much pressure
To enjoy every minute
But if I could go back
There's not much I'd do different

I cherish the moments
We shared at the end
Even though you are gone
You're still my best friend

I can't help but wonder what could have been
If not for the dragon and all of the sin
Some people are gone without fair warning
But you stuck it our to help ease our mourning
