'Making Music' by Bill Withers - Wed, Aug. 24, 9pm

When people hear the name Bill Withers, the songs “Ain’t No Sunshine”, “Lean on Me” and “Use Me” typically come to mind. None of those songs are on this album. Don’t let that fact fool you into dismissing this work of art though.  Bill’s fourth studio album Making Music, although perhaps not as raw as his Sussex albums, still contains the signature soul of his writing and performing. For example, one could argue that the closer, “Hello Like Before” (the tender song of meeting a past lover), could be listened to on repeat for a few hours without bore. That’s of course if you make it past the phat bass line that’s laid down on the penultimate track of the album, “Don't You Want to Stay”.  The combo of a great funk and a compelling string arrangement will leave you wondering why the song never gained more notoriety.

But of course you needn’t wait until tracks nine and ten to hear some masterful and inspirational songs.  Join me on Wednesday, August 24th for a trip back to 1975 and we’ll dive into the full album. I know I won’t be disappointed. I don’t think you will be either!
