'The Blue Mask' by Lou Reed - Wed, Jan. 10, 9pm EST

Lou returns to RCA on this 1982 release which many consider to be one of his finest solo efforts.  The quartet assembled for the album features an all start lineup of guitarist Robert Quine, bassist Fernando Saunders and drummer Doane Perry.  Other than Reed redoing his vocals on most songs, there were almost no overdubs from the raw sessions that created this 80’s gem.  It's an emotionally varied album with softs songs reflecting Lou's recent marriage and intense tracks agonizing over a past of drug and alcohol addiction. Lou is Lou, yet Lou never remains Lou.

Is The Blue Mask his best solo work? Do you prefer a different stylistic period from Lou's career?  Weigh in on Jan. 10th as we usher in year 5 of "Album Night"!
